Franciscan Well, on North Mall along the River Lee, was Cork’s first modern craft brewery when it opened in 1998 — a small operation in the brick buildings of a 13th-century Franciscan monastery (the original medieval wall still forms the back of the beer garden). Their Rebel Red, Friar Weisse, and Chieftain IPA are all brewed on site and served alongside wood-fired pizza in the covered beer garden.
Full brewery tours (~60 min, book online) run at weekends and include tastings. The Easter ‘Cask Ales Festival’ is a Cork institution. 10-minute walk from the city centre across the river.
