What Stamp 4 lets you do

An American does not need a visa to travel to Ireland with an Irish spouse. Stamp 4 lets you work without an employment permit, or run a business. See our full guide to Ireland visas and residency from the USA for the other routes.

After 3 years of marriage, and at least 3 of the last 5 years spent legally living in Ireland (including the full year right before you apply), you can apply for citizenship.

Marriage is not the only family route in — if you have an Irish grandparent, see Can You Move to Ireland If Your Grandparent Was Born There?
