The pub has served many famous faces too. John F. Kennedy savoured the brews here back in 1945 when he worked with the Hearst Newspaper dynasty. When Judy Garland did a run of shows in the Theatre Royal across the street, she drank here regularly, apparently smoking & playing poker until the early hours…but this 240 year old pub is perhaps most famous for its association with James Joyce, who set one of his short stories on the premises.
