For the first time ever, Belfast is hosting Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann — Ireland’s largest celebration of traditional music, song, and dance. It’s only the second time the festival has come to Northern Ireland at all, after Derry hosted in 2013.

If you’re planning a trip to Ireland this summer, this is worth knowing. The Fleadh draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, with sessions spilling out of Belfast’s historic pubs, competitions running across multiple venues, and street performances around every corner. It’s a full immersion in Irish musical culture.

Belfast brings something new to the mix. The city’s thriving arts scene, walkable Cathedral Quarter, and strong trad music community make it a natural fit. You can pair festival days with exploring Titanic Belfast, St George’s Market, or the dramatic Causeway Coast nearby.

The Fleadh runs through this week, wrapping up on Sunday, August 9. For travelers already in Ireland or those who can make a last-minute trip, Belfast is buzzing right now — see our full visitor guide for exact dates, free events, and where to go.
