It has become a live staple at their concerts and earned over 80 million views on YouTube. With its chorus of “Raise your glass up high and drink it down, in an Irish Pub”, “An Irish Pub Song” captures the spirit of a night out with friends.

The Rumjacks stay true to their roots and continue to create music that captures the energy and emotion of traditional Irish music.

History of the Rumjacks

The Rumjacks are an Australian folk-punk group that has been making waves since 2008. Founded by lead singer Frankie McLaughlin, the band has built a strong following around their signature blend of punk and traditional Celtic folk music. The Rumjacks have also earned considerable international recognition for their work, garnering support from influential artists such as UK Subs, GBH and Gogol Bordello.

Since their formation, the band has gone through a number of lineup changes, with their current lineup consisting of McLaughlin on vocals, Johnny McKelvey on bass, Anthony Matters on drums, Gabriel Whitbourne on guitar and banjo/mandolin/bouzouki.

Their debut EP Hung, Drawn & Portered was released in 2008 and was followed closely by their second EP Sound as a Pound later that year. The Rumjacks have since released 3 studio albums: Gangs of New Holland (2010), Sleepin’ Rough (2012) and Hestia (2015). The band has also released a number of EPs and singles.

The Rumjacks are currently touring extensively in Australia, Europe, the US and Canada, playing at clubs and festivals around the world. With their unique sound and engaging live performances, the band continues to draw fans from all over the globe.

An Irish Pub Song

The Irish band, The Rumjacks, achieved worldwide success with their 2011 single “An Irish Pub Song”. Taken from the 2010 album Gangs of New Holland, the song was an observant commentary on how there were Irish-style pubs all around the world. In addition to this, it was a call to action against what The Rum jacks saw as the commercialization of Irish diaspora culture.

The song’s music video on YouTube quickly gained traction, accumulating over 77 million views. This success was further solidified in 2016 when Billboard published an article stating “An Irish Pub Song” was ranked number 4 of the 25 most popular St Patrick’s Day songs on YouTube.
