Is The Banshees of Inisherin the best Irish movie ever made?

“The Banshees of Inisherin” is a 2022 film directed, written, and co-produced by Martin McDonagh. Set on a remote Irish island, the dark tragicomedy stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as lifelong friends whose relationship ends abruptly with dire consequences. Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan also star.

The film reunites Farrell and Gleeson, who previously worked together in McDonagh’s directorial debut “In Bruges” (2008). The film had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2022, where Farrell and McDonagh won awards for Best Actor and Best Screenplay, respectively.

It was released in Ireland, the UK, and the US on October 21, 2022 by Searchlight Pictures. The film received widespread acclaim for its screenplay, direction, score, and performances, and was named one of the best films of 2022 by the National Board of Review. It received 8 nominations at the Golden Globe Awards, the most for any film since 2003’s “Cold Mountain” and won three awards for Best Motion Picture, Best Actor, and Best Screenplay.

The popularity of the movie is set to bring a tourism boon to the west of Ireland. The video below about the making of the movie which was created for Tourism Ireland has had millions of views.

I guess along with many people it really made no sense to me. I guess I'm not intelligent enough to understand what was so wonderful about it. The scenery it was marvelous. I ha d the good fortune of visiting Ireland and the scenery where parts of the film was just as wonderful as the movie depicted.I kept watching it hoping it would get better. It didn't.

The first 30 minutes were marvelous & really captured Irish wit & humor. The balance of the movie was so dark I had to insist to my girlfriend that it would shock & depress her & I didn't think she should watch it. I know of other women who watched it and had to turn away.
