The Best Pubs in County Wexford According to You

County Wexford has a pub culture that runs deep — shaped by centuries of seafaring tradition, bustling market towns, and a warmth that locals are rightly famous for. From the narrow medieval streets of Wexford Town to the quiet harbours and rolling countryside beyond, the county’s pubs have long been places where stories are shared, music fills the air, and strangers become friends. Whether you’re a local or a visitor passing through, a great Wexford pub has a way of making you feel like you belong.

Ireland’s biggest pub poll of 2026 received 422 votes from every corner of the country, and County Wexford had two pubs featured in the competition. Below are the Wexford pubs that took part — each one a gem in its own right.

The Sky and the Ground, South Main Street, Wexford Town

If you’ve spent any time in Wexford Town, chances are someone has pointed you towards The Sky and the Ground. Sitting proudly on South Main Street, this pub is one of the most beloved in the county — a place where traditional music sessions kick off without warning and the atmosphere is second to none. The name itself comes from a Wexford saying, and everything about the place feels rooted in the spirit of the town. With its dark timber interior, crackling energy, and a pint poured with real care, it’s the kind of pub that stays with you long after you leave.

The Sky and the Ground represented County Wexford in Ireland’s biggest pub poll of 2026, competing against hundreds of pubs from all 32 counties. See the full 2026 rankings here.

Centenary Stores, Charlotte Street, Wexford Town

Just a short stroll away on Charlotte Street, Centenary Stores was another Wexford institution that earned its place among the county’s finest. Originally a Victorian-era shop, the building was converted into a pub that retained much of its old-world charm — exposed brick, original features, and an atmosphere that felt both timeless and welcoming. For over 35 years it was a favourite for live music, craft beer, and hearty conversation, drawing a wonderful mix of locals and visitors alike.

Update: Centenary Stores closed in late 2024 after 35 years in business. The building was sold at auction in July 2025; the new owner has indicated plans to continue it as a bar following refurbishment. Check locally for the latest status before visiting.

Centenary Stores also featured in the 2026 pub poll as a proud representative of Wexford Town.

Planning a Visit to Wexford’s Pubs

If you are planning a trip to the sunny south-east, Wexford Town makes an ideal base for a pub crawl with real character. Most of the county’s best-loved bars sit within easy walking distance of one another along South Main Street and the quays, so you can wander from one to the next on foot. Aim for a Thursday to Sunday evening if you want the best chance of catching a live traditional music session, and don’t be shy about striking up a conversation — in a Wexford pub, a stranger is only a friend you haven’t met yet. Many of these pubs serve hearty local food too, so arrive hungry and settle in for the evening.
