With lyrics that echo the sentiments of homesickness for one’s homeland, the song became an instant hit with soldiers during World War I. “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary, was adopted as a marching tune for British troops fighting in the conflict. The song’s title was inspired by Jack Judge’s ancestral roots in Tipperary, Ireland.
