Here is what we found: –
In October 2104 a Droheda-based bakery has succeeded in baking the largest loaf of soda bread ever recorded.
McCloskey’s Bakery in Co. Louth debuted the enormous loaf, which measured over 2 metres long, on Dublin’s St. Stephen’s Green.
The traditional, if slightly larger than usual, loaf took 3.5 hours to bake and weighed in at over 250kg.
A whopping 122.22kg of flour was used to create the dough and 110kg of buttermilk was also upon the list of ingredients.
The loaf was created in celebration of Ireland’s National Bread Week, which launched on Monday.
President of the Flour, Confectioners and Bakers Association (FCBA) Patrick McCluskey said that soda bread has a huge significance in Irish culture.
“Irish soda bread is traditionally made from just four ingredients and to a method that has been passed down through the generations.
“Unlike most bread, it is made using baking soda and its origins are steeped in Irish history,” he said.
The huge loaf was created by squeezing the dough into the bakery’s largest oven.
