Every April, Galway transforms into Ireland’s literary capital. The Cúirt International Festival of Literature 2026 runs from 21–26 April, bringing together some of the finest voices in Irish and international writing for six days of readings, masterclasses, poetry, and conversation across the city.
Now in its 41st year, Cúirt has grown into one of Europe’s most celebrated literary festivals — and this year’s theme, Finding the Words, feels particularly resonant. As festival director Manuela Moser puts it: “We invite you to celebrate literature and the ways in which writers shape the way we see the world, fuel our imaginations, provide clarity, and broaden our minds.”

A Who’s Who of Irish Literature
The 2026 programme is packed with names that will delight any lover of Irish writing. Neil Jordan, Anne Enright, Liz Nugent, Louise O’Neill, Mary Costello, and Ardal O’Hanlon are among the Irish writers appearing this year, alongside celebrated poets including Rita Ann Higgins, Sinéad Morrissey, and Vona Groarke.
International visitors add further depth to the programme, with writers including Gwendoline Riley, Adania Shibli, and Alan Davies making the journey to Galway.
