It is said that Irish Coffee was created in the winter of 1943 by Joe Sheridan a chef at Foynes Port near Limerick, Ireland.
During World War IIFoynes had become one of the biggest civilian airports in Europe and then an airbase for transatlantic flights that often carried political or Hollywood figures.
When a flight was delayed one evening Chef Joe Sheridan, feeling sorry for the cold and weary passengers decided to whip up something special for them to drink. The rest thay say, is history.
