Tipperary Just Got a New Reason to Stop

A new heritage centre has opened in County Tipperary, and we’re adding it to the list immediately. Tides of Time has opened its doors in Carrick-on-Suir, inside the former St Nicholas’ Church of Ireland off Main Street.

The centre traces Carrick-on-Suir’s own story — its origins, its long connection to the River Suir, its hinterland across three counties, and the poets and people who shaped it — rather than the coastal geology first reported. Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke TD officially opened Tides of Time on 23 July 2026, calling it an “exceptional heritage project.” The project received over €352,000 through Fáilte Ireland’s Regenerative Tourism and Placemaking Scheme, with a further €88,000 from the Carrick-on-Suir Development Association, bringing total investment to more than €440,000.

Tipperary already punches above its weight for visitors. The Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle, the Galtee Mountains — serious draws that reward an extra day in the county. Tides of Time sits close to Ormond Castle and the Suir Blueway, strengthening Carrick-on-Suir’s place within Ireland’s Ancient East and giving visitors another reason to slow down rather than rush through.

If you’re mapping out an Ireland itinerary, pencil this one in.
