Sinéad O’Connor’s life — one of extraordinary talent, fearless truth-telling, and cultural impact — is set to be brought to cinemas in a new biopic.
According to The Guardian, the film will be directed by Josephine Decker, with a script from Stacey Gregg and backing from See-Saw Films (producers of The King’s Speech and Slow Horses), Nine Daughters, and ie:entertainment. The same production team was involved in Nothing Compares, the acclaimed 2022 documentary that chronicled O’Connor’s life and activism.
The movie will explore her early years in the music industry — the rise of a young woman from Dublin whose raw talent conquered the world, while her name became inseparable from her outspoken stands against injustice. From the global success of Nothing Compares 2 U to her powerful protest against the Catholic Church in 1992, Sinéad remained a voice of courage and conviction.
O’Connor’s journey was as turbulent as it was inspiring: ordained as a priest by an independent Catholic group in 1999, converting to Islam in 2018, and using her platform to spotlight the failures of powerful institutions. She passed away in 2023, aged 56, leaving behind a legacy that transcends music.
