Come Back To Ireland – Thomas Maguire & Fhiona Ennis
Thomas Maguire & Fhiona Ennis are a folk group from Ireland. The duo has been performing together since the early 1990s and have released seven albums to date. Their style is a mix of traditional Irish music with influences from Celtic, Americana, and contemporary folk styles.
The most popular song of the duo is “Come Back To Ireland”, a classic Irish ballad that tells the story of two young lovers who are separated by distance but connected through their love and longing for each other. The song is centered around a single melody line that builds gradually over several verses as Maguire’s vocal delivers heartfelt longing for his lost love. The gentle strumming of the guitar and the sweet vocal harmonies provided by Ennis complete this classic Irish tune.
The lyrics of “Come Back To Ireland” have struck a chord with many people, both in Ireland and abroad, who can relate to the intensely emotional story of love that is at its core.
Fhiona Ennis
Hailing from Ballymurn in County Wexford, Fhiona Ennis grew up surrounded by Country music and soon developed a love for it. With her dream of recording her own album, she has had the privilege of performing with Michael English on “We’ll All Stand Together” and sharing the stage with Declan Nerney, Mick Flavin and Jimmy Buckley. Mary Duff has even honored Fhiona by awarding her “Most Promising Newcomer” at the yearly award ceremony held at Newtown Country Club in County Meath.
Prior to joining Thomas in 2005, Fhiona toured with USA singer/songwriter legend Leona Williams and Moe Bandy as part of their Irish schedule. She even traveled to Nashville for the CMA festival 2005 where she took part in a live broadcast on the legendary Ernest Tubb’s Midnight Jamboree Radio Show. In recognition of her talent, Fhiona was voted ‘Best Female Newcomer’ at the 2005 Country & Irish Entertainment Magazine award show.
Fhiona’s journey in Country music has been inspiring and she continues to pursue her dream of creating an album. With a great amount of support from fellow musicians, Fhiona is sure to continue making progress in her career.
Thomas Maguire
Thomas Maguire’s music career began in 2000 when he released his first album, “Margie’s at the Lincoln Park Inn”. Since then, Thomas has become increasingly popular throughout Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales as his music reached a wider audience. He has been interviewed on national and local radio stations around the world, hosted by popular BBC Ulster TV show “Hugo and Friends” in 2001 and been praised by Daniel O’Donnell as “one of our big stars of the future”.
Throughout his career, Thomas has also had the privilege to perform alongside some of his musical idols such as Big Tom, Brian Coll, Larry Cunningham, Gene Stuart and Foster and Allen. He has also collaborated with modern favourites such as Declan Nerney, Eamon McCann, Mick Flavin, Jimmy Buckley and Martin Cuffe.
Thomas has released four albums to date; his debut “Margie’s at the Lincoln Park Inn” in 2001, “Thomas Maguire Sings” in 2004, “Promised to John featuring Fhiona Ennis” in 2006 and most recently his 2008 album “We’re Still Together”.
Throughout the years Thomas has continued to be recognised for his outstanding talents and has won awards such as ‘Best Male Artist of the Year’ and ‘Best Recording Artist’ at the Country Music Ireland Awards in 2002, as well as ‘Best Young Entertainer of the Year’ and ‘Best Album’.
As Thomas Maguire’s career continues to grow, he is sure to establish himself even further as one of the leading names in the Irish country music circuit. His catchy tracks, versatile vocals and captivating lyrics are sure to make him a household name for many years to come.
