Is Loop Head Ireland Worth Visiting?
Embark on the famous Loop Head Drive and you will immediately see that it is worth visiting and why it was a Star Wars Film location.
Loop Head has always been defined by its relationship with the water as it is flanked by the Shannon Estuary on the one side and on the other by the expansive Atlantic Ocean.
Loop Head is a slender finger of land pointing out to sea from the most westerly point of County Clare, on Ireland’s Atlantic coast and in 2010, Loop Head became a European Destination of Excellence in aquatic tourism and this is an exteremely popular holiday destination.
As you drive along, you will come to the very tip of the peninsula and you’ll come to the imposing Loop Head Lighthouse. A lighthouse has been on this site for over 300 years. The current lighthouse dates back to 1854 and is open to the public with a guided tour where you can visit the 23 metres ( 75 feet ) high balcony and experience the spectacular views and you will be awed at the might of the Atlantic ocean. If you go on a clear day, you can see the Twelve Bens mountains of Connemara to the north and the Blasket Islands to the south.
While on the subject of driving, it is important that you have peace of mind when driving in Ireland.
With scenery this beautiful, it is now wonder that the site was used for a movie and no less than Star Wars: The Last Jedi was shot on location. Truly a magical place in a magical film.
On a clifftop nearby you will see large white letters spelling out E-I-R-E. this is a relic from World War II, when the writing was used to alert pilots that they were entering the local airspace. Similar sights are found all along the Wild Atlantic Way.
As you can imagine Loop Head is also the perfect holiday spot but How Would You Like to Win a Holiday at Loop Head?
