Why is Doolin famous?

Known as the home of Ireland’s traditional music and folk scene, Doolin is famous for year-round traditional music sessions in its local pubs and more recently,  as well as a number of festivals and concerts. The main event in Doolin is the annual Doolin Folk Festival, which is very popular.

The Cliffs of Moher are sea cliffs located at the southwestern edge of the Burren region in County Clare, Ireland.

They run for about 14 kilometres (9 miles). At their southern end, they rise 120 metres (390 ft) above the Atlantic Ocean at Hag’s Head, and, 8 kilometres (5 miles) to the north, they reach their maximum height of 214 metres (702 ft) just north of O’Brien’s Tower, a round stone tower near the midpoint of the cliffs, built in 1835 by Sir Cornelius O’Brien, then continue at lower heights.

The Burren is a region of County Clare in the southwest of Ireland and is landscape of made up of bedrock and incorporates avast cracked pavement of glacial-era limestone. The area ahs various with cliffs and caves, fossils, rock formations and archaeological sites.

Aran Islands

The Aran Islands are 3 rocky isles situated in the mouth of Galway Bay, in western Ireland and are well known for its ancient site. The largest island, Inishmore, is home to the prehistoric fort of Dún Aonghasa, perched on top of a high cliff. Nearby is the Worm Hole, a rectangular natural pool and a favourite spot.

With a  reputation as the home of Ireland’s traditional music and folk scene, Doolin is a must visit for music lovers. There are year-round traditional music sessions in its local pubs, a series of summer gigs, concerts and of course, the popular Doolin Folk Festival.

The eighth annual Doolin Folk Festival took  place on the 10th-12th June, 2022. The festival was three days, three stages of folk, from top Irish and international acts all performing  in Ireland’s biggest small hotel, Hotel Doolin.

At the Doolin Music House you can experience traditional music in the cozy atmosphere of a private home. Christy Barry and his partner Sheila have entertained friends and musicians at their home for many years where they would sit around the fire playing music and would tell stories. Sheila is also an artist and her works of art surround the rooms of the house, creating an unique atmosphere.

McDermott’s Pub in Doolin is a traditional Irish pub and here you will be entertained by traditional Irish music nightly with some of the finest musicians in Ireland. It also has a great menu with many favourite dishes.

McGann’s Pub & Restaurant

The pub was known as Lafferty’s before brothers Tony & Tommy McGann purchased the pub in 1975. The pub struggled early on but once the Lisdoonvarna Folk Festival was announced things changed and the pub has thrived and is a home to music sessions since the 1980’s.

The new Doolin pier is a starting destination for safe travel options for ferry trips to the Aran Islands and Cliffs of Moher. Both of these attractions are a must visit when visiting Doolin. The old  Doolin pier is now a home to various  leisure activities.

There are a number of other activities for outdoor adventures, including kayaking, climbing or walking and much more.
